How we handle your data

Unlock PDF

Remove a PDF's opening password using the password you already have, so the next person in the workflow can open it directly. Files stay in your browser.

Small converter download on first use.

One PDF, up to 20 MiB. The original file stays unchanged.

Use at least 12 characters. Keep a copy: there is no password recovery.

Download sample

This two-page sample is protected with the password result-open-63. Enter it and run Unlock PDF; the unlocked PDF should keep both pages.

What to expect

Protection uses AES-256 and sets a password to open the PDF; after opening, printing, copying and editing are not restricted. Unlocking requires the existing password; this tool does not guess passwords. Changing a PDF can invalidate digital signatures.

Processing stops after 30 seconds. Protected input can be up to 30 MiB; output is limited to 30 MiB.

The first run may download converter files and take a moment. If it fails, check your connection or try a smaller file. Cancel stops active processing; you can choose another file and retry.

A practical guide

Pass it on without the password step.

  1. Choose the protected PDF from the handoff and enter its known password.
  2. Run Unlock PDF to create an unprotected copy.
  3. Confirm the copy opens without a password before forwarding it.

Try this example

Unlock a protected packet using the known password rally-handoff-55; the resulting PDF should open without a password for the next reviewer.

Before you start: Unlock only works with a password you already know; it cannot guess or crack a password you do not have.
